 Chinese market gardeners and Indian rural labourers were the most common coloureds in N.S.W. The usual urban Chinese class mix was visible in Sydney: merchants, storekeepers, fruit and vegetable dealers, green grocers with notably, far fewer cabinet makers than Melbourne. Indian and Syrian travelling rural hawkers were also as common here as in country Victoria.
