Toki S run a store on Thursday Island with her husband, Noritaki and continued after his death. She made 5 trips back to Japan, when she was photographed aged and finally in 1918.

Although Thursday Island had the largest concentration of Japanese women, they were to be found throughout the North, and more so in Broome. Despite the myth that the majority of Japanese women in colonial Australia were sex workers, most were housewives who had joined their husbands working here.
